Safe, Professional Cleaning for Your Solar Panels
Rain helps remove loose surface dirt, but it will not always clear bird fouling, salt deposits, moss, lichen, agricultural dust or debris collecting around the panels.
Over time, this build-up can affect generation, particularly on low-pitched roofs, coastal properties, farms and sites close to trees or busy roads.
Solar Support provides professional solar panel cleaning combined with a visual inspection of the array. We service systems installed by any company and work across residential, agricultural and commercial properties throughout Ireland.
Does Every Solar System Need Cleaning?
Not necessarily.
Solar panels installed at a suitable pitch can remain reasonably clean through normal rainfall. Other systems accumulate dirt and debris much more quickly because of their location, roof angle or surrounding environment.
Signs that cleaning may be required include:
- Heavy bird fouling
- Moss or lichen on the panel surface
- Salt film on coastal properties
- Dust from farming or nearby construction
- Leaves and debris around the panels
- Uneven dirt collecting along the lower panel edge
- A visible difference between previously clean and affected areas
- Reduced generation that cannot be explained by weather or season
We take a condition-led approach. If the panels do not need cleaning, we will not recommend it unnecessarily.
More Than a Panel Clean
Every cleaning visit includes a visual inspection of the accessible solar array.
We look for:
A visual inspection does not replace a full electrical health check, but it can identify problems that justify further investigation.
How We Clean Solar Panels
Solar panels must be cleaned without damaging the glass, frames, seals, cables or roof covering.
Depending on the property and access available, we use suitable soft-cleaning equipment and controlled cleaning methods. We do not use high-pressure washing around solar panels or electrical connections.
Before starting, we consider:
Some panels can be cleaned using specialist equipment from ground level. Other installations require planned roof-access equipment.
Residential Solar Panel Cleaning
Domestic systems may benefit from cleaning where panels are visibly affected by birds, trees, coastal deposits or shallow roof angles.
We can also check whether your inverter and monitoring app show any obvious change in generation before recommending additional diagnostic work.
Farm and Agricultural Solar Cleaning
Solar panels on farms can be exposed to higher levels of dust, bird activity and airborne agricultural material.
We provide cleaning and inspection for solar systems installed on:
The cleaning method and schedule are assessed according to the site conditions and safe access requirements.
Commercial Solar Panel Cleaning
For larger commercial rooftops, we assess the array before providing a cleaning plan.
Commercial services can include:
Cleaning can also form part of a wider commercial operations and maintenance agreement.
Will Cleaning Improve Solar Generation?
It depends on how heavily the panels are affected.
Cleaning lightly soiled panels may produce little measurable difference. Removing heavy or uneven deposits can have a more noticeable effect, especially where part of a panel or string has been significantly obstructed.
We do not promise a fixed percentage increase because the result depends on the condition of the panels, system design, roof orientation and weather.
If the panels are clean but generation remains low, the system may require performance testing or electrical fault-finding.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should solar panels be cleaned?
There is no single schedule for every system. The appropriate interval depends on the roof pitch, location, surrounding environment and how quickly dirt accumulates.
Can I clean solar panels myself?
Working at height and around live solar equipment presents serious risks. Incorrect equipment or cleaning chemicals can also damage panels and roof coverings. Professional cleaning is the safer option where roof access is required.
Do you use a pressure washer?
No. High-pressure water can affect seals, connectors and roof materials and is not appropriate around solar electrical equipment.
Will you clean beneath the panels?
Accessible debris can be assessed, but extensive nesting material or pest activity may require additional work. Active nests must be treated in accordance with wildlife requirements.
Can you repair a problem found during the inspection?
Yes. If we identify a defect, we will explain what is required and provide a separate quotation before repair work begins.
Do you clean panels installed by other companies?
Yes. We clean and inspect solar systems regardless of the original installer or equipment brand.
Request a Solar Panel Cleaning Assessment
Send us photographs of the solar panels, property address and approximate number of panels. We will review the installation and advise on access, cleaning and inspection requirements.
