Solar Panel Repair

Solar Panel Repair Ireland

Panels underperforming, partially dead, or completely offline? Solar panel faults rarely announce themselves — no drip, no smell, no noise. They show up as an app graph that looks lower than last summer, an electricity bill that stopped falling, or one string in your monitoring quietly flatlining while the other carries on. By the time most owners notice, the fault has been costing them for months.

Solar Support finds the fault and fixes it — on any brand, from any installer, anywhere in Ireland. Diagnosis first, written finding, fixed-price quote, then the repair. No guesswork, no ‘it might be the panels’ shrug, and no incentive to sell you a new system, because we don’t sell systems.

How Panel Repair Works

Diagnostic first. Where you have monitoring, we review your generation data remotely before anyone travels — string comparison over time often localises the fault before we arrive. On site, we test properly: string open-circuit voltages, operating currents, insulation resistance, and thermal imaging where a hot spot is suspected.
Written finding and fixed quote. You'll know exactly what failed, why it failed, and what the repair costs — before we start. If the honest answer is 'this isn't worth repairing', that's the answer you'll get.
The repair. Completed by Safe Electric registered electricians to IS 10101:2020, with proper roof access equipment and method statements. Parts carry their manufacturer warranty; our workmanship carries ours.
Proof of performance. A post-repair generation check against expected output, so you can see the system back at full production — and a benchmark to measure against next year.

One Failed Panel Costs More Than You Think

Most Irish domestic systems are wired in series strings — the panels in a string behave like bulbs on an old Christmas light set. One badly faulted panel can drag the entire string down with it, which is how a single €150 fault ends up costing 20–50% of a system’s generation.

Run the numbers on a typical 4–6 kWp domestic system and a fault like that is worth hundreds of euro a year in lost savings and lost Clean Export Guarantee income — silently, every year it goes unfixed. The diagnostic that finds it costs a fraction of one year’s loss.

Any Brand. Any Installer. Even If They’re Gone.

We repair systems built with every major panel brand sold in Ireland — JA Solar, Jinko, LONGi, Canadian Solar, Trina, Q Cells, REC, SunPower — and the legacy brands of Ireland’s earlier waves that you won’t find a dealer for anymore. Discontinued panel? We source electrically compatible replacements and integrate them correctly.

And if the company that installed your system has ceased trading, nothing about the repair changes — except that we also help recover what they left dangling: monitoring access, documentation, and manufacturer warranty claims where the product warranty survives (it usually does).

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if a panel has failed?

The usual signs: generation noticeably down against previous years, one string reading lower than its twin in your monitoring app, visible damage or discolouration, or an inverter earth-fault error that comes and goes with the weather. Our diagnostic pinpoints it precisely — including which panel.

Can one panel be replaced, or do I need a whole new system?

Almost always repairable. Even where your original panel is discontinued, an electrically compatible modern equivalent can be integrated correctly. A full system replacement is very rarely the right answer — and since we don't sell systems, you can trust us when we say so.

Will repair work affect my SEAI grant or Clean Export Guarantee payments?

No. Repairs restore your system to its notified configuration, so nothing changes with SEAI or your CEG payments. If a repair grows into a modification — more panels, a bigger inverter — we handle the ESB Networks NC6/NC7 notification for you.

My panels are covered in green film / lichen — is that a repair job?

That's a cleaning job that becomes a repair job if left long enough. Heavy soiling costs yield and can create hot spots. See panel cleaning and inspection

Do you repair farm and commercial systems?

Yes — domestic, agricultural and commercial rooftops. For farms and businesses we also offer structured annual O&M so faults get caught on a schedule rather than by accident
